All those who stood with The Lord had something to tell about their past. The ones he chose were not “a few good men”. They were sinners, those who gave up hope, those who were hated by society and those who walked in darkness. Their robes were stained with filth, the very filth of their wrong doings. The Lord never chose any of the apostles because of their holiness or because they had any special abilities. Rather I would say they were just ordinary men with many in abilities. We know Thomas was a doubter, Peter had a temper, Paul was a murderer, Zaccheus was short and Lazarus was dead. But when the master chose them, they were not the same person again. They were washed by the blood. They were given new robes and they were given the great responsibility of preaching the glorious gospel. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!”.
So now St Paul very boldly says in 1 Corinthians 1:27 “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty”. Now let us stop looking at our own in abilities. Our lord does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called. So arise, listen to his call and be a part in spreading this glorious gospel to the ends of the world. The Lord calls you. God Bless.
